Florida is a state that requires the Department of Transportation to adopt additional regulations which apply to the safety of large trucks. In the state of Florida a drive of a commercial motor vehicle that is not carrying hazardous material is only allowed on the road for 72 hours over seven consecutive days. Fla. Stat. 316.302. This restriction unfortunately is often broken. 

Crashes involving large trucks in 2018 accounted for 11% of all motor vehicle fatalities. In rural areas 61% of fatal crashes involve big trucks, 27% on interstate highways. Large truck crashes are particularly prevalent, and deadly, on weekdays. 84% of large truck crashes that are fatal, and 88% that are not fatal occurred Monday through Friday.
